LES MILLS LAB RESEARCH
A team of researchers in the Les Mills Research Lab have cracked the code to exercise motivation by studying two groups – regular exercisers (exercising for at least 150 minutes per week for 10+ years) and the second group comprising of people who rarely exercise.
First, let’s get clear on why members lose motivation: No fun – No time – No connection.
Only 23% of beginners saw exercise as a positive experience, with the majority reporting a lack of social support or appropriate planning to help reach their goals.
Maintain motivation by looking for exercise options that are fun and feel good, rather than working yourself to exhaustion. Once you’ve found your preferred workouts, plan your exercise in one-week blocks and reflect regularly. Lastly, find a workout buddy – adding a social element will help you enjoy exercise more.
ALL THE SUPPORT YOU NEED
The most important thing to know is that your fitness journey has no finish line – it’s something you’ll be working on for the rest of your life. You’ll have good days and not so good days, but if you set yourself up for success, you’ll stick at it – and that’s the secret to becoming fit, healthy, and happy for life.
